Painted Lady

Painted Lady

His talent was as natural as the pattern that was made by the dust on a butterfly’s wings. At one time he understood it no more than the butterfly did and he did not know when it was brushed or marred.

Ernest Hemingway has always known enough about talent, time and the power of nature which are the three main topics covered in most of his books. When I came across this beautiful butterfly – a Vanessa cardui to be more specific –, Hemingway’s quote stroke my mind immediately. In fact, such a tiny animal is so perfect : the colour shades, the patterns and details, nature has given birth to a unique little creature here. Unfortunately, butterflies are so vulnerable and their average life span is so limited that lots of dust ultimately end up on their dead bodies. Such a waste of amazing masterpieces!
